It is on the strength of this ‘influence’ that based on the urging of Teddy Shine, the candidature of his wife as Oyo Deputy Governor is being propelled by backing the emergence of Teslim Folarin as PDP Gubernatorial candidate.
Findings revealed the Fayose/ Oshinowo faction prefer backing Folarin against Akala based on ‘siding’ with the aspirant that would provide better room to operate.
Akala is a former deputy governor and Governor- he knows all the nooks and crannies to stifle the operation of his deputy. And he is doesn’t have good relationship with the Oshinowos, though he is casual friends with Governor Fayose.
The favoured aspirant, Teslim Folarin has good rapport with the Oshinowos. He is a very good friend of Governor Fayose and rumoured to have supported his emergence as consensus candidate of Ekiti PDP back then. The former Senate Leaders bond with Folake was forged better when the later was a member of the Federal House of Representatives before her election was nullified by the court.
Both Folake and Folarin belong to opposing faction of the state PDP from Akala.
Insiders further revealed Fayose’s support and backing by Senate President, David Mark – another major factor in national PDP affairs has virtually handed the Oyo PDP gubernatorial ticket to
Folarin, making the chances of the Folake’s emergence as running mate very strong.
More digs revealed faced with this looming possibility, more popular aspirant on the street – former governor Alao Akala is contemplating defection.
He is said to be exploring two options, moving to Labour Party to make an attempt to achieve his gubernatorial ambition. Or crossing to the All Progressives Congress to directly challenge the emergence of Folarin by supporting the re election of incumbent Abiola Ajimobi in return for a Senatorial ticket.
Informants further revealed these contemplations are against backdrop of offers of a Ministerial position or Senatorial ticket if he stays in the PDP.
However an insider in his camp with less conviction than when the race for the PDP ticket began, claims he is still making a go at winning the ticket with the assertion ‘ the odds may not favour him now, but remember in politics things are dicey round the clock...5 minutes can make a whole lot of difference’
