Ex Reps Speaker, Dimeji Bankole's Guber Ambition Off On Shaky Start
...as talks of arrogance, constituents abandonment as No 4 Man rents the air

The declaration of the gubernatorial of former speaker of the Federal house of representatives, Dimeji Bankole has taken off on a shaky start.

A window into this development is provided via a potpourri of opinions collected on the social media.

Begining with the posting of the Ogun gubernatorial aspirant's declaration statements

'My desire to be Ogun Governor is not a selfish one,Thrice I have moved to all the 20

Hon Dimeji Bankole

Local governments and I have never meet someone with misplaced priority like our Governor, he is building model schools yet he refuses to maintain the existing one,we hear of billions spend on health and minus Abeokuta and ijebu ode nothing is happening and all the health centres built by past governments have been shut down,Ogun state needs a new hand and the state of debts we have to rely on them say.'
    - Hon Dimeji bankole

The reactions are reproduced below

Hon Dimeji Bankole ......
What was dimeji bankole's anticident as the no4 man in the nation den?  Any contribution to ogun state development? Youth empowerment and all?    He's not fit to rule Ogun.  Let's have a better offer Not a #Dimejibankole.  Olu

....
@Olu, you have spoken well! Raheem Ajayi
.....

@baglo
I know why you against Hon Bankole aspiration because he is not a yewa man,the last time the slot was given to you yewa pple you spoilt it and na him we still dey suffer ,Akinlade is a good candidate but what is the possibility that if we support him,
Another 80 year old yewaman won't come out,pls don't spoil this Amosun must go project ooohh
seun oloketuyi
.....

@Seun Oloketuyi.Hoin l'ebu agba.I am a Yewa man and Baglo is my brother.Yewa people are not stupid like u presume.Kush.
.....

Somebody asked what Dimejis achievements as no 4 man is. Well he became one of the richest young egba man of his generation and did NOTHING for his people. I want to be proved wrong!
Gbenga Adeyinka
.....

Seun, I was born and raised and still lives in Abeokuta and I can tell u for a fact that DB as a PDP candidate will be a failed project. A man who occupied the NO 4 position in this country and had nothing to show Ogun state people for it aside from his needless arrogance, looting, fighting OGD and physically assaulted OGD's driver over the commissioning of Ota bridge. Sadly, the father also went about town blairing siren as
Hon Dimeji Bankole
"father of Mr.SpeaKer"...after DB lost election he ran away and abandoned all party faithfuls after benefiting immensely. call Buruji any name u want if not for him a lot of hungry politicians will have abandon d party. Where are the two Special Advisers who worked with DP as Speaker? All gone to APC..IFEKAYODE AKINBODE
.....

So the PDP is desperate to unseat Amosun and the candidate of choice is Dimeji Bankole? It shows they are not yet serious about this 'Amosun Must Go' project.

To further add to the negative incalculable developments Dimeji brought to his people,while in incarceration,not even the gateman in ogun state came to his rescue or visited him.....is better Dimeji should remain quiet and build his dented image...we are not fools ooh..krix
.....

@gbengaadeyinka1st and ife I can only post but can't type ,will answer you soon
seun oloketuyi
.....

@Olu, are you for real? Please don't tell me you are equating been a Speaker(legislature) with an Executive o. @GCON, like what do you expect of/requested from him? Do you know how many visible projects in financed/facilitated round the State senatorial zones. Bro, be factual o.... Akanni Ola Balogun
Hon Dimeji Bankole .....

@Seun, Dimeji Bankole as PDP guber candidate honestly without sentiment or hatred is gonna be a bad market for AMG project to be achieved..Mediana.

....

@AOB pls ask them who facilitated the completion of Sango Otta bridge was it not Hon Bankole. Lattylibra
.....

@AOB & Lattylibra, a de fi yenWhat else again? 2nd Lafenwa bridge abi?Igbira soro o p'owe, o ni, "oju ti ra"..........Tossyno

.....

Dimeji as speaker had all the opportunities to shine. He was young, good looking, well spoken and properly educated, all very good attributed for a politician in this era. But did he take advantage of these attributes? No, arrogance was his most visible cloak. His dad, Alani Bankole of the 'Caterpillar, ekun oko oke' fame can't be remembered him Ogun politics for anything positive either. If the PDP fields Dimeji, Amosun's reelection is almost certain.

Ganzallo
.....

Krix, how did you know nobody visited him? Where you at the place with him? Habaaa!! E de rora paro!!!! Did OGD or Fayose told you his gatemen visited them? Oluwa ooooo!!! =)). @Tosyyno, my brother, Dimeji Bankole was representing a LG not the whole Ogun State, yet, he deemed it fit to bring such development to his State. Do you know that the first Overhead bridge in Ogun State was facilitated by him? - another record breaker, he is ;).... Akanni Ola Balogun

.....

@Ife

I believed in the spirit of the new PDP Ogd and Hon Bankole has made up,Db is a young man who contributed his quota and as you are aware he did not gave executive powers but used his clout as speaker to deliver a world class hostel to unnabb and also help fasten some federal projects which includes the ota bridge and lafenwa, Asking what he did is like me asking @raheem how many roads he did as a powerful sa to ogd and @ife as a kitchen cabinet member
Db is not a saint but whatever reason my instinct tells me he is the best we can offer now but once the party choose a candidate,I will support him whether Db or not,let's stop personal hatred ,@gbengaadeyinka1st pls help efcc out pls as the case against Dimeji was thrown out and if I can add what did Sen Amosun do in the Senate before he become Governor

seun oloketuyi

.....

@Kush, Jagunmolu of Imasayi tile toko. Thank you egbon mi tooto for that.@ Seun, for the purposes of calculations the only person that can defeat Amosun in Egba land, is Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, the man who liberated Egba Nation. Any other person will be defeated by Amosun including Dimeji who lost woefully to an unknown William for the House of Reps election in Abeokuta south. If Dimeji lost his reelection as a Speaker of HOR, what has now changed after leaving the office three years plus he will be running for an election in the whole state which is almost times 15 of his Federal Constituency. It's only a Yewa man that defeat Amosun. And the 2011 you deridedly accused Yewa of; today is not the time to talk about it.

Raheem Ajayi
......

@raheem
let's be logically about this,we all know why Db lost and remember that Fayose lost a senatorial election but defeated jkf 16 0,I wish ogun PDP the best
seun oloketuyi
.....

AOB,i am from Edo state, I was approached to come and bail dimeji while in incarceration,because I met his bail conditions Heaven bears me withness,my Dad adviced me not to, he said what happened to people from ogun,cant I see the handwritting on the wall,dat I shud stay away...if he was that good as you are portraying him to be now,why would everyone run from taking his bail?....:) krix

.....

Ganzallo, was Dimeji Bankole rude to you or na dem say dem say?. • As visible as the Yewa Lokan agenda is, the players are not ready. Shikena# . Yepa mogbe! Krix was the surety for DB =)). All this lie you are sharing, disris God ooooo... Akanni Ola Balogun

.....

@AOB, I schooled in Abeokuta, I was a SUG exco in school, I know Mr. Bankole personally. My friend, Mamok was his PA, my friends were his boys, it's not a matter of 'dem say, dem say' you'll never see me contribute to a discussion I don't know about on this platform, I don't talk for the sake of being heard. If Dimeji is the candidate being presented to tackle Amosun, it's almost certainly a failed project. Even within the PDP, I am certain there are more qualified candidates that can be brought forward. Except maybe the party needs someone who has the cash to throw about.

Ganzallo

....

@Seun, I am From Ogun State, Abeokuta to be precise and I believe the issue of Governor of our state really affects me. Youe dear Ekiti has been blessed with Fayose. We don't need the blessing of DB! Saying that Dimeji as number 4 Man did not have enough clout to bring about more federal presence shows you how he used his clout for the general good. As per EFCC, a lot of us. Have lost faith in them. They are more active in prosecuting yahoo yahoo boys than politicians but let me tell you. Lisabi agbongbo Akala oni fun DB she! Egba meji aja ra won niyan bayi o! Baawa ani Egba baayisi?
Gbenga Adeyinka
......

@AOB.I am definately going to have a big fight with u soonest.Who told u that the Yewa people are not ready as visible as Yewa lo kan is?.Kush

....

Sorry people I will have to interrupt...why are we so small-minded? What is bridge n hostel to a state? How can we b contented that all the number 4 citizen cud bring to a state with all his attendant power are bridge n hostel? Gosh...we have cheap expectations of our leader, no wonder our country is in a mess.

Sam olatunji
.....

@Sam
bros send me your address, I will send you a copy of the constitution and you will know that Db didn't hold an executive position.
seun oloketuyi
....

If I may contribute to this debate as a Yewa man and one who has championed the Yewa 4 Gov course for a while, I don't think we (Yewas) are ready for this general elections. The elements are not in our favour at this time....maybe 2019 will be better. Our best chance ever was in 2011....of course we all know the story. On the issue of 'Amosun Must GO'....this will depend on how and we'll PDP is able to manage the internal arrangements as regard power sharing and negotiations. the recent migration of some strong political heavyweights to the party has necessitated a realignment and re-arrangement. However one thing is certain....an Egba candidate is the right formula to defeat Amosun if other other factors are put right such as the realignment in the PDP. On dimeji Bankole.....yes he can win but he can only achieve that on the platform of a truly United PDP...I repeat... a truly united PDP in Ogun state.                Sola Oyekanmi

....

@sam olatunji You will not die,ask them who owns the hostel. You see when I say we'r our problem. I am from Ogun state,and while I think the state needs a proactive leader to move it forward I am shocked we'r here discussing Dimeji Bankole. IT seems his supporters on here don't know what power a speaker of the whole Nigeria wields or just want to allow their fondness for the man throw a sentimental veil over what he could have done for Ogun state as Speaker. Going by standard of governance,world over, id like for DB's supporters to educate us the ignorant ones about the history of this man and his established leadership qualities. So it won't look as if we'r killing him on arrival.

TomiwaSage

....

@Tomiwa
pls tell us the powers of the speaker please
seun oloketuyi
.....

@Kush, I don't think you should dissipate energy on anyone, as what that man posted was not bad enough, another man who claimed to be a Yewa man and had been championing Yewa project , up till now though, just posted that the project was not feasible, in his oppressed and colonized mind though. All of them will swallow their vomit.

Raheem Ajayi

.....

@ All. The issue at stake in Ogun State is Amosun must go. No candidate is best or worse, it all depends on the side you belong or where you think your bread will be well buttered. All the PDP candidates have their strength & weaknesses.  But i believe a pdp govt will be more people oriented than  Amosun govt. The tide seems to point towards an egba candidate. Wherever wins the ticket must be supported by all. Is not enough for people to shout that they are from Abk or Ogun State. We call then Egba Abroad. They come to town during festive period and for weddings & burial ceremonies. They rely on beer parlour gossips, sponsored and bias news in print and electronic media to  update their political knowledge. Go to yewa, ijebu and egba and see suffering and agony  on the face of people like tribal mark. Amosun has succeeded in making us poorer and has subjected us to untold hardship bcos of unnecessary ego, know all attitude, vengeance, greed and personal vendetta. GAS

...

@Seun Oloketuyi, We all know the functions of a Legislature,to make laws. But as the Speaker of the house of Rep's, the influence is tremendous. Committee report to you. You oversee and can use such influence to make sure constituency projects and done to finish with sustaining quality standards. You can also liase with your state house of assembly to make sure that projects being carried out in your state are done speedily. You can lobby the executive in making sure proper attention is given to Federal projects in your state. It is even faster when the governor is in the same party as you. When the speaker of the state house assembly is also in your party. To come and name an hostel and one bridge as an achievement for a Speaker is not what a lot of us will term as "Success". It's below pass mark. It's the same thing a lot of people asked Omisore when he was running for Governor. If you come from the same Constituency as DB @SeunOloketuyi and that's all he has to he belt as success claims will you vote him for governor?

Tomiwa
....

If I may ask,  what are the functions of a speaker or house of rep member?  2, what has Tambuwal done to his state as a speaker?  3, as a speaker which constituency did Dimeji Bankole represented then?  4 as a speaker is he suppose to concentrate on issues that is affecting Ogun State alone or the country at large?  To me Dimeji is ok but Ogun PDP can still do better if AMOTHIEF must go. remain Ayo Mojoyin.
Hon Dimeji Bankole
....

@Ayo Mojoyin, name calling is not right and I think bringing Amothief into this will rob us of the robust discussing we have been having! There are. A lot of names we can call Dimeji and all the PDP leaders! Pls let shun name calling. Gbengaadeyinka1st

....

@Seun Oloketuyi, so you are applauding Fayose's first major achievement of painting of government house. Gawd, why are you so satisfied with such tokenism. No wonder you are giving Dimeji an hi-5 for facilitating a completion of Otta bridge! So, job for only 40 youths thrilled you? Fayose is bereft of idea. Shikena! Ekitikete, aiti rin kenken. -Funsho Arogundade
......
I have been following this debate since morning but I can only say that those who said Dimeji Bankole doesn't have the pedigree are just being mischievous. What are the primary duties of a legislature? Somebody said as No4 citizen what he brought is Hostel and bridge, who did it before him? The bridge at Sango was way out of his constituency yet we criticise him. To me, Dimeji Bankole can't do more that what he did as House or Representative member. Femi aruleba

It's nice to know that Dimeji reads our post, why can't he come out and defend himself! He was in school in England. Is it roads that David Cameron campaigns with?. How has he developed the human capital of the state?
