Alao Akala, Teslim Folarin's Fight To Secure Oyo PDP Guber Ticket Intensifies

The battle between leading contenders for the post of flag bearer of the People's Democratic Party, PDP in the coming general election in Oyo state has intensified.

It appears a straight fight between immediate past governor, Adebayo Alao Akala and former senate leader, Teslim Folarin.

Others in the race come a bit of distance behind the duo insiders confirm.

Informants disclosed at press time, the duo have intensified politicking to outdo each other.

Alao Akala, generally confirmed generous with government patronage while in office has beneficiaries and their dependants rooting for his candidature.

Along with many of those against the incumbent seen as engaged in 'selective enrichment' to the detriment of all.

According to a source the concerted efforts of these groups have created a hysteria of support for Akala's return bid, which is drawing more support by the day.

With 'Akala's generosity' seen as a much needed 'virtue' in the face of re election seeking Governor Abiola Ajimobi's tight leash on funds, except for very few dear to him -the former governor is believed to be speedily creating a street mob of support towards achieving his ambition.
Senator Teslim Folarin And findings revealed Akala's chances within is party is buoyed by belief that his major contender for the PDP ticket, Teslim Folarin is seen as coated in the same traits as the must be defeated incumbent- he is not really a people's man.

The talk is that unlike Akala, the former Senate leader lacks wide spread following within and outside the party.

According to a source 'As Senate leader, he spent virtually his time hobnobbing with national players. He barely had time for his constituents. Now he lacks the grass root support for his ambition'

However sources confirmed while, Akala has the street rooting for him, Folarin has the stronger hold on the support of the national hierarchy.

It is confirmed that one of his major backers is silent but influential decider in party decisions, Senate President David Mark.

But unlike he did in Osun, the Senate is cautious in going all out to foster a preferred candidate. The party is striving hard to avoid another loss, particularly in the southwest.

Insiders revealed to give the favourite a fighting chance, the Senate President reportedly engineered a truce meeting between the duo- adding one or two other aspirants to coat intentions - but sources disclosed, the development ended on a stale mate. Both aspirants refused to compromise their ambitions, particularly Akala who rejected a Senate seat offering amidst other inducements.

Further digs revealed the candidates opted to slug it out during the primaries.

Akala is said to be banking on widespread support within his party as a generous former governor- while Folarin is labelled ' working on becoming a consensus candidate'.

A source however insist ' except for sanction, disqualification or any other ambition scuttling political antics, Akala is as good as home free with the PDP ticket'

His political machinery ground work is labelled so much result yielding that the re election seeking incumbent, Gov Ajimobi made overtures to lure him over.
